Caloom version 3

In version 3 of Caloom the focus was on searching large amounts of different text and find relationships between those texts. We are used to see things like “related articles” or references in texts and Caloom version 3 added some levels more. Based on tests we did we could , within a large enough collection of texts, take 2 random texts and build links between them.

Imagine the theory of six degrees of separation, everyone connected to any other person with only six other people in between you and the other. We did the same with text.  Unfortunately we ran out of money and steam and Nick had moved in the mean time to South Africa and rightfully so wanted to have a job that actually paid.

First follows a narrative that should explain how the logic worked.

The article in Helsingin Sanomat. On the left side is a Caloom icon with some numerical information on how many W5 links were found. This is fictional and not in correspondence with the next images. Just too lazy to keep this things up to date

Fictional data for the whole article. The 5Ws highlighted in the article The 5Ws are now linked with the data of Helsingin Sanomat within the Caloom network. So how many times does the word “lentokone” occur.

The 5Ws are now linked with the data of Helsingin Sanomat within the Caloom network. So how many times does the word “lentokone” occur. Now you can begin to do boolean queries on this data. This was the basis for discovering hidden connections, coincidences, patterns and other. Any combination of the 5Ws can be used. You can search for data on the words used withing the specific article or expand with new parameters like in this example with “Suomi”.

This query was restricted to the data within the Helsingin Sanomat data set, within the Caloom network. But if Helsingin Sanomat allows for cross referencing with other data sets a world of infinite possibilities opens up.

Here is a good scenario, explanation and visualization of another way of interacting with the same data.
