Consciousness
Intent modifies probability
after Tom Campbell
The higher the uncertainty within a system, the more intent can affect the probable outcome
I have written a post called On good versus bad aliens (non-human biological entities) where I explain my views on Consciousness and Tom Campbell’s LCS theory. Here is a summary of that post.
In this cosmology, the universe we live in is a simulated environment, with our true selves, or Souls, existing outside this simulation. These Souls are part of a larger system called Consciousness, similar to what Tom Campbell refers to as the Larger Consciousness System (LCS). Prominent physicists like Max Planck and Niels Bohr, along with Amit Goswami, support the idea that Consciousness is the fundamental source of existence. Souls are interconnected within this Consciousness, creating a collective unity while remaining distinct individuals, much like various plants in a forest.
Each Soul undergoes individual development through multiple lifetimes, contributing to the evolution of Consciousness. Consciousness evolves by creating and maintaining simulations, like Earth, where Souls gain experiences that lead to growth. This process is akin to a feedback loop, where Consciousness learns and evolves through the experiences of its subdivisions, the Souls. Consciousness is not an omniscient deity, but a system seeking to experience and evolve. The challenges on Earth, such as social differences and violence, reflect both the planet’s inherent conditions and the quality of Souls inhabiting it.
Life on Earth is considered a significant yet difficult simulation, analogous to primary school in a broader system of spiritual evolution. Souls enter Earth having forgotten their previous lives, with the aim to grow and evolve. Some Souls may have come from harsher simulations, affecting their behaviour on Earth. Over time, Souls learn that cooperative and loving attitudes enhance their experiences. The existence of aliens, who may occupy other simulations, suggests a broader and varied process of spiritual evolution. Earth is just one step in this journey, where Souls must evolve before moving on to higher levels of existence.
Main Points:
- We live in a simulated environment, with our true selves (Souls) outside it.
- Consciousness is the fundamental source of existence, with Souls interconnected within it.
- Each Soul evolves through lifetimes, contributing to the overall evolution of Consciousness.
- Consciousness directs and maintains simulations for Souls to gain experiences and evolve.
- Earth is a challenging simulation, reflecting both inherent conditions and the quality of Souls.
- Life on Earth is part of a larger system of spiritual evolution, akin to primary school.
- Aliens may occupy other simulations, indicating a broader process of spiritual growth.
- Souls on Earth aim to grow and evolve through cooperative and loving behaviours.
Consciousness and the Simulation Theory by Thomas Campbell
On this page, I describe Thomas Campbell’s model. Campbell, a physicist and one of the earliest scientists to explore consciousness scientifically, has additional information on his simulation theory available on his website. His co-authored paper, “On Testing the Simulation Theory,” and a free book can be found on this webpage. The physics and calculations are beyond my expertise and too complex to explain, but my goal is to simplify his simulation theory for easier understanding and application.
The fundamentals
In this section, I attempt to answer the question: what is the Larger Consciousness System (LCS). It is important to note that we cannot fully comprehend this from a human perspective. However, through observation and reasoning, we can draw some conclusions.
Building blocks and assumptions
Consciousness is fundamental, and the speed of light is constant. The LCS encompasses everything, which is data and information. The system evolves and learns, containing smaller consciousness units called Individuated Units of Consciousness (IUC). Chaos and high entropy indicate devolution, while order and low entropy signify evolution.
- Consciousness is fundamental, and the speed of light is a constant (these are the assumptions, all else is derived from these assumptions)
- everything is part of something called the Larger Consciousness System
- everything is data, information
- the system evolves, it learns
- within the LCS are smaller consciousnesses called Individuated Unit of Consciousness (IUC)
- chaos, high entropy, unstructured data means devolution
- order, low entropy and structured data indicates evolution
Logic
IUCs are self-aware and possess free will. Intentions drive actions and thoughts, with collaboration leading to low entropy and system evolution. Non-collaboration results in higher entropy and chaos. Love, as defined by Tom, signifies collaboration and low entropy, while fear denotes non-collaboration. Our reality is a subset of the LCS, and each of us exists as an IUC outside the material-based reality.
- IUC is self-aware and has free will
- The intention is the key driver, thoughts, and actions are secondary
- The intent to collaborate leads to low entropy, and this is (or seems to be) the goal of the system
- An IUC that does not cooperate adds to a higher entropy, a devolution, or chaos
- love is Tom’s word for collaboration and low entropy; it is about “the other”
- fear is Tom’s word for non-collaboration; “it is about me”
- our reality is a subset of this Larger Consciousness System
- we are each an IUC and are outside this material-based reality
Experience
The reality we consider real is, to most people, the only reality. This reality can also be viewed as a simulation, though this is a metaphor. We experience space and time, but within the LCS, these attributes do not exist. We can simultaneously exist in multiple realities since, from the LCS perspective, there is no concept of time.
- This reality we consider as real and, to most people, the only reality
- this reality can also be viewed as a Simulation, although this is only a metaphor
- we experience space and time, in the LCS there is no such attribute
- we can be in multiple realities simultaneously as from the LCS perspective there is no such thing as time
What are rules?
The simulation operates with logic, rules, and limitations, some of which we call the “laws of physics” like gravity. The material world is a subset of the LCS, and contemporary science investigates its rule set. Other rules, such as telepathy, defy material constraints and transgress between realities. We experience linear time, but this virtual reality operates like a game, with rules dictating physical interactions and perceptions.
- This Simulation has logic, rules, and limitations
- we discover rules and some we call “laws of physics” like gravity
- the material world is a simulation, and we experience materials as real
- contemporary science is good at the investigation of this material rule set
- this material rule set is a subset of the Larger Consciousness System (LCS)
- there are other rules active in this reality that defy the material rule set, for example, telepathy
- these are rules that transgress between this reality and the LCS, other logic applies
- we also discover that we cannot measure everything
- cause and effect create a linear time experience
- we experience time as linear
- this VR has rules like in a game
- gravity rule dictates that things hold up in the air and dropped, will fall towards the centre of the earth
- touch rule says that if you hit the table with your hand, you feel the table as being hard and possibly, your hand hurts
- sound law tells us that the ear, nervous system and brain pick vibrations between certain frequencies which we perceive as sound
- Many rules in this model equal our physical scientific laws
- to change a rule, you would have to rewrite the source (code), but consciousness is not a computer
- The clock speed approximately a Planks length, many times faster than the speed of light
- Past, presence, and future are probabilistic;
- history is deterministic and includes variations of what might have happened
- the current moment is of approximately a Planck time (intervals of intervals around 5.39×10-44 s) or a Planck length (around 1.62×10−35 m)
- future becomes more and more undetermined the further you go into it
Experience the rules
We do not have a real body; we experience a body. Therefore, death is merely a transition within consciousness. Despite this, pain and misery are real human experiences. We perceive this VR through the five senses (sight, hearing, taste, smell, touch). To experience other subsets of the LCS, one must subdue these senses by silencing the mind and stopping thoughts.
- There is no real body, you experience a body
- Therefore, there is no death, we undergo a transition within consciousness itself
- However, pain and misery, to name a few, are real human experiences
- you experience yourself now as a character, a real being, a person
- you experience this subset of the larger consciousness system, this VR, through the five senses
- sight
- hearing
- taste
- smell
- touch
- to experience other subsets of the larger consciousness system, you turn off or subdue those five senses
- you do this by silencing your mind, stop thinking
Other rule sets
Other realities have different rule sets, such as the dream reality. In dreams, normal physical rules may not apply, and with practice and analysis, one can gain more control over these alternate realities.
- Other subgroups or realities have slightly or radically different rule sets
- the dream reality is such a subset you are familiar with
- Inside a dream, you might find it difficult to run, until you learn that you do not need legs and muscles to run. You can choose where to go to
- lots of practice and diligent analysis gives you more and more control over other realities
Measure the progress
You can learn in different simulations, just as you do here. When outside this simulation, you can affect your avatar to some extent. Identifying fears and making gradual changes can nudge probabilities within the probability space.
Where to look
- You can learn in other simulations, as you learn here
- when you are outside this simulation, you can affect your avatar, to some extent
- determine what needs to change, zoom in on fears, we all have those
- changes can be radical, but in most cases happen gradually
- Nudge the probability within the probability space, step by step.
Recognize entropy
The more rules in a society, the higher the entropy. Collaboration lowers entropy, while the accumulation of power and influence raises it. Societies with fewer rules tend to have higher moral standards. Personal entropy increases with controlling behaviour and self-centred intentions. Lowering entropy involves helping oneself and others genuinely.
- The more rules in a person, family or society, the higher the entropy
- if you collaborate because that is who you are and others benefit, the entropy goes down, and things go smoothly
- if you gather stuff, influence, and power the entropy goes up; people do not cooperate, and you need rules and laws
- societies with many rules tend to have a low base morality. Societies with a high moral standard require fewer rules.
- Your entropy goes up when you tell others what to think, how to behave and what to say. Your Entropy goes up also when you think you know what is better for another human being, and when you get angry when someone says something you don’t like. If you help others because you feel that makes you a better person, your intentions are about yourself.
- You lower your entropy when you help yourself, help others, and you care.
- You do not help yourself when you accept everything, are passive and play the role of a peaceful and loving being. This behaviour one considers a form of delusion.
How to adjust reality
Change requires a toolkit with five tools: intention (goal setting), attention (belief and concentration), intensity (emotion or trauma), repetition (rituals), and need (benefit to self and others). Self-awareness and genuine intention are crucial for progress, with interactions serving as a mirror of one’s development.
- intention could be like a goal or realism, imagine you have already reached that goal
- attention can be exercised as a belief, through concentration and as part of a ritual
- intensity, could for example a strong emotion, trauma, or shock
- repetition, like in rituals, but if a shock is involved, it might not be needed to a lesser degree
- need; is this about your ego or does it benefit others, so ask yourself “why am I doing this?”
Remarks:
- “You get what you need, not what you want.”
- It is easy to fool yourself and to pretend to be a better person does not make you a better person, it could help though
- Family, friends, and the people you interact with act as a mirror of your progress
