Lickable Landscape 3

“Lickable Landscape 3” is one of three encaustic works I created from salvaged wax from an earlier, and failed, project. The earlier project was another attempt to create a representative painting of human shapes, but it didn’t work out. As a result, I melted the paintings and collected the leftover wax. I was able to separate the colour to some degree, which resulted in these reds, purples, and a hint of skin tone.
The name “Lickable Landscape” originated from my wife walking into the room one day and remarking how she could lick these paintings. When I made this, I tried to sculpt the various landscape elements and ended up with a smooth and rounded edge.
