Lust, greed and indulgence is the title of this work. As you hopefully can see, this is a very physical work with body parts that open up to, and some that enter in to other parts. The bodies take most of the space, with only room left for weak ethereal rays. You are welcome to imagine God, Source, or Consciousness as the rays. The source of these rays is on the edge, almost out of the picture.

This work is part of a triptych: “Cum Per Mysterium Vitae” and “Si ibi essem, hic non essem“. This series tells the story of finding the balance between the material and the spiritual. The tension between the materials and spiritual experience has kept me occupied for many years, and you can find elements of this in my theories on authenticity. There is a parallel with my First law:
If your secret life, your private life and your public life are One, you are an authentic person
My assumption here is that when one achieves pure authenticity, one does not return to this Earth (virtual) dimension, but moves on to another realm. Hence, as long as we experience life on Earth, we have the opportunity to work towards achieving this goal.
In this work, the emphasis is on veins, which are the carriers of the lifeblood. Blood also carries the DNA from generation to generation. The idea of bloodlines and its relevance in history and biologically also plays a role in these works.
What could be identified as individual body parts are, on closer inspection, melted together. I wanted to communicate how the emphasis on “the flesh” slows down the progression towards a better balance between the material and the spiritual.
With “material” I mean the perception of this being a material world. In Consciousness, Authenticity, and Creativity I wrote extensively on this topic. Thus, the overwhelming focus on gathering stuff, exercising the pleasures of the flesh and the want for more leads to, in my world-view, to a heavy existence and regression.
This work is made on an iPad in ProCreate. I used two colours and two brushes, “Willow Charcoal” and “6B pencil”. Both are from the default brush set that came with ProCreate. The dimensions are 5613px by 7964px. This gives a good print up to ± 80 cm x 60 cm.
