Cipher Maria
‘Cipher Maria’ is one of the earlier encaustic works. These three paintings are inspired by the idea that old traditions need to cloak themselves to survive. In these works, I created a cipher of the ancient Greek version of ‘Parthenos Maria’, Παρθένος Μαρία.

Myst
Myst is the theme that includes the series Fire and Wind, and Earth and Fire, are inspired by stories from the Oera Linda book as transliterated by Jan Ott. Inspiration comes from the description of a period which reminded me a lot of stories about the Great Deluge.

Landscapes
Landscapes are a recurring theme in my work, exploring the nature of reality. My belief is that what we perceive is merely an abstraction of the true reality. This aligns with theories such as the Simulation Theory and the role of consciousness. Furthermore, in my paintings I strive to capture experiences through visual and spatial perception, further abstracting them into a two-dimensional medium.
Dunes
I think about the beach, reminiscing about my youth. The dunes and the sun were lovely to behold. In the evenings, my friends and I would gather, drinking wine and sharing stories until late into the night. These memories are precious to me, filled with happiness and nostalgia.
Threads
Threads were the first, larger, encaustic paintings. The idea of using needle and thread in a painting came to me years ago. I do not know why, but the idea stuck with me. As I worked on the landscape painting ‘Thread 1‘ I imagined how the two main surfaces in the painting (foreground and background) were stitched. This evolved further in the paintings ‘Thread 2‘ and ‘Thread 3‘.
Other
The category ‘Other’ has those paintings for which I do not yet know where they belong to. This often means that something is brewing in my subconscious awareness and that over time, new paintings will tell me about the new direction.
