Artist Statement – a multifaceted creative journey

Since childhood, I’ve found joy and comfort in drawing and painting, using art as a medium for introspection, experimentation and self-expression. My life has been a blend of diverse passions and pursuits, from IT research and design to teaching creativity and data visualization.

Art, to me, is a way to report back after exploring the world around me – delving into unseen realms, mythology, and discovering my truth. Each piece reflects parts of my perceptions and experiences of the emotional, physical, and spiritual worlds. I often spend extended periods on specific themes until I feel that I have resolved certain questions before moving on to new aspects of my perception.

While earlier works were created primarily with acrylic paints, since 2023 I have included encaustic painting – using beeswax mixed with damar resin and oil paint. This technique adds an element of surprise, as the outcome of brushstrokes and fusing is only partially controllable. A friend once described it as “fluid dynamics with pigment,” a fitting interpretation considering the unpredictable nature of my subject.

In my paintings I intentionally limit my palette to five colors – Titanium White, Burnt Umber, Permanent Red Middle, Permanent Yellow Middle, and Phthalocyanine Blue – always mixed and never straight from the tube. This creates a sense of consistency and cohesion among my pieces, made with high-quality oil acrylic and oil paints from Wallace Seymour.

My life is about exploration, risk-taking, and learning through experience. The choice in materials might come from seeing another artist working with that medium or as a thought that just pops into my mind. I follow these thoughts as learning about new materials, techniques, and the subsequent results teach me about myself: what suits me, what do I like, why?

Being less bothered by the opinions of others allows me to not focus on one theme or technique or theory, but instead explore freely those areas that will encourage me to grow faster and more profound. In my work, themes such as other realms (Simulation Theory, Consciousness), reincarnation, astrology, mythology, sexual energies, and the occult (the hidden) slowly but surely surface in my artworks.

The future is open, and I am convinced new materials, modalities and creative ventures will be added to my arsenal of creative output. In essence, my creations go beyond mere visual representations; they embody intention and seize opportunities in the artistic process. My work is driven by overarching themes that weave together as chapters in a larger narrative explored through various series but not restrictive to a certain genre or medium.
